The Fayetteville Liberty basketball team was proudly founded on December 12, 2024, in Fayetteville, NC—home to the “Center of the Universe,” Fort Liberty. With a city population of over 350,000 people and a vibrant community that includes more than 50,000 service members, civilians, and their families, Fayetteville provides the perfect foundation for our mission and vision.

Led by our owner, Robert L. Edwards Jr., a 17-year military veteran who spent six of those years serving right here in Fayetteville, the Liberty is more than just a team—it’s a movement. This opportunity is one that Robert shares with trusted colleagues and associates, who serve as essential neutral voices in shaping the team’s values, structure, and longevity. Together, they form the backbone of an organization built to last and thrive.

Fayetteville Liberty is not only dedicated to being a competitive force on the court but also to being collaboratively driven off the court. Our mission is to serve as a bridge that unites the city, inspiring athletes and the community alike. We aim to be a cornerstone for opportunity, opening doors scholastically and professionally, while fostering a spirit of togetherness.

With over 50,000 active-duty service members, 150,000 veterans, and 260,000 family members who have served our country valiantly and honorably, we recognize the importance of this community. In response to the historic name change from Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty in 2024, we found it fitting to align ourselves with what we believe to be the center of the universe – a community rooted in service, sacrifice, and resilience.

The name Liberty holds deep meaning. It represents the greatest American value – freedom – and the sacrifices made to protect it. Just as our troops protect, defend, and uphold the Constitution, we are committed to standing alongside them, supporting their families, and building a stronger community.

This spirit of liberty and teamwork extends on and off the court. Much like basketball, where discipline, sacrifice, and unity create success, we recognize that the same values drive our service members and their families every day. Whether in service, in sport, or in life, we aim to be the pipeline and conduit that connects, restores hope, and builds relationships.

Through collaboration, dedication, and a love for both our troops and the game, we honor those who serve by creating a foundation where liberty thrives, hope is restored, and community is built – both on the court and beyond.

Robert Edwards, born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in a diverse military community, has cultivated a rich and multifaceted career marked by service, leadership, and a passion for excellence. With 17 years of honorable service in the United States Army, he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Two, specializing in information systems technology with concentrations in cybersecurity and information assurance.

Robert's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and an MBA in Cybersecurity. These qualifications have equipped him with a unique skill set, blending technical expertise with strategic business acumen. His sharp communication and management skills are complemented by a deep commitment to integrity, always pointing back to his faith in Christ as the foundation of his leadership.

Robert's love for basketball stems from years of competing at the high school, college, and semi-professional levels, including playing overseas. This passion has now transitioned into ownership of the Fayetteville Liberty, a TBL pro-development basketball team. Under his leadership, the Fayetteville Liberty aims to restore hope and build community by creating opportunities for athletes to grow both on and off the court. His guiding philosophy, "It's not always equal, but it is equal sacrifice and effort-one team, on the court and in the community," reflects his dedication to fostering unity and progress.

In addition to his work in sports, Robert is an accomplished entrepreneur, owning a media company that produces content for highly regarded platforms while building an independent platform boasting 25,000 followers, subscribers, and supporters. His media ventures demonstrate his commitment to connecting and inspiring audiences through innovative content.

Above all, Robert is a devoted son to Robert Sr. Rhonda Edwards, and father to three children, with a focus on establishing legacy of opportunity and success for his family. His leadership in every arena- sports, business, and family-is defined by a relentless drive to uplift others and make a lasting impact.

As the owner of the Fayetteville Liberty, Robert Edwards is poised to lead the team and community toward a future of growth, excellence, and shared purpose.
